The target population for this study will be high school students between the ages of 14 and 18. The goal is to survey participants from each of the five federally designated counties in poverty in NH (Coos, Strafford, Grafton, Cheshire and Carroll) and identify to what extend does living in rural poverty impact student engagement in school (United States Census Bureau, 2011). In order to identify and recruit potential participants representing all grades in high schools and a majority of high schools in the identified counties in poverty this study will use data provided by three federally funded TRIO programs; UNH Upward Bound, UNH Educational Talent Search and Keene State College Upward Bound. These three TRIO programs are federally funded and serve low-income, potential first generation college students. They all serve high school students who fall below 150% of the national poverty threshold and whose parents did not receive a four-year postsecondary degree. The three programs t hat would supply the data represent 25 high schools in the target areas. All students whose income was below 150% of the National Poverty Level and who participate in these programs would be invited to participate in the study (roughly 500 students). Forgiveness was never something that was discussed in the church I grew up in, and it was not until I attended Christian counseling as a client that I learned of the true concept of forgiveness and why it is beneficial both in my life and in the life of the one who has hurt or offended me. Until reading this article, I had never really considered the scientific side of forgiveness. Magnuson and Enright provide a lot of evidence to support the positive effect that forgiveness has on psychological, relational, and physical health. I also had never actually considered approaching forgiveness as a process of steps in order to achieve a goal. In granting forgiveness, Freedman et al (2005) as cited in the article explains that, â€Å"One must first uncover one’s anger. In doing so, one can work through such issues as identifying psychological defenses (like denial), confronting the anger, or sometimes acknowledging the experience of shame†¦Once one has committed to forgive, one can begin the work of forgiveness by viewing the offender in new ways by developing empathy and compassion toward the offender†¦ After one has work on forgiveness, one might find new meaning in the suffering, recognize that one has been an offender in the past, and realize that one is not alone in the journey,† The same process is true of the process of receiving forgiveness. This could also be in the form of a retreat or conference of sorts where multiple lay persons and leaders in my region could attend which would include a guest speaker, and break-out sessions on the importance of and how to implement and practice forgiveness and forgiveness education.

Daily pills to suppress desires and â€Å"stirrings† are taken by citizens beginning at age twelve. There is no choice, no disruption, and no human connections. This is the world Jonas knows until he is assigned to train under the Receiver and become his successor. The Receiver holds all the memories of the community and it’s his job to pass on this heavy burden to Jonas. As the old Receiver begins to give Jonas the memories of ages past, Jonas starts to see colors and experience new feelings. He learns there are words to label the emotions that are erupting inside him: pain, joy, sorrow, and love. The passing of memories from aged man to boy deepens their relationship and Jonas experiences a powerful need to share his newfound awareness. Jonas wants others to experience the world as he sees it, but the Receiver explains that letting loose these memories all at once into the community would be unbearable and painful. Jonas is weighed down by this new knowledge and awareness and finds solace in discussing his feelings of frustration and amazement with his mentor. Behind a closed door with the speaker device turned to OFF, Jonas and the Receiver discuss the forbidden topics of choice, fairness, and individuality.
